After dislocating his shoulder in the 2005 Billabong Pro Tahiti final, it was no secret that Damien Hobgood had some unfinished business to attend to in Teahupoo. What’s not as publicly heralded is the fact that his recent Foster’s ASP World Tour win at Chopes was also heavily inspired by an autograph session gone awry.

Aussie injury replacement Trent Munro was hitting up past champs with a Sharpee and Billabong Pro Tahiti jersey in hand when he mistook Damien for his twin brother and 2004 Billabong Pro Tahiti Champ CJ.

Damo was delighted to jot his name on the jersey for Munners, but Trent wasn’t as tickled when he realized his error. Lucky for both of them, a bomb in the dying minutes of Damien’s final against Mick Fanning meant the singlet could be salvaged.

Here’s hoping Trent caught up with CJ (his Tahitian lay-day inspired mullet made him a little easier to discern from Damien last week) and was able to get the other Hobgood’s John Hancock too!
