The Wicked Chronicles Part II
The end of an era…or perhaps the birth of a legend? Last week, we saw the Steve Irwin-graced Wicked Camper depart from the Gold Coast to parts unknown. Was the trip successful? Did our fearless van and fearful driver fall captive to cannibalistic Irish backpackers? Did they join a hippie commune run by Spanish-speaking Kangaroos? Did the clutch burn out only to be repaired by a team of Koalas? No, but stuff did happen. Read on to find out.

Gilmore Burns Up the Burnout
Ever wonder what ASP World Champions do when they not busy defending their titles? Well, how’s about learning to drive Formula 1 cars and racing in front of hundreds of thousands of screaming fans. That’s exactly what 19-year-old Stephanie Gilmore did last week when she terrorized the racetrack in Melbourne and took on a bevy of international stars in the Celebrity Formula 1 race. All proceeds went to charity and now it’s back to business for the talented natural-footer, who will look to rebound at this week’s Rip Curl Women’s Pro at Bells Beach.

Fantasy Surfer Speculation
Eight-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater blew minds at last week’s Quiksilver Pro pres. by LG, defeating reigning ASP World Champ Mick Fanning in the finals. Will Kelly be at Bells though? And, what kind of impact will that have on your Fantasy Surfer Teams? On the women’s front, we saw Peruvian Sofia Mulanovich grab the Roxy Pro while reigning ASP Women’s World Champ Steph Gilmore suffered an early exit. How’d you guys go? If you haven’t signed up yet, you’re blowing it! Remember, play both the men’s and the women’s for the biggest prizes.
The Wicked Chronicles Part I
With the wrap of the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro pres. by LG, the best surfers in the world have two weeks before battling it out in the coliseum that is Bells Beach for the Rip Curl Pro. With such a short break in between events, the ASP Top 45 and Top 17 are already gearing up for their next assault on the ASP World Tour and ASP Women’s World Tour. With that in mind, ASP has lucked into a sweet Wicked Camper (fresh with Steve Irwin spray) to trek the coast and catch up with the world’s best surfers to see how they spend their time in between events.
ASP North America Pro Junior Qualifiers Decided
The opening event of the 2008 ASP North America Pro Junior Series has been completed and congratulations go out to Cory Arrambide and Christa Alves who took out the men’s and women’s divisions respectively. The victory was extremely important for Alves as the Billabong Sebastian Inlet Pro Junior is the only women’s qualifying event in North America, and the young Floridian along with event runner-up Courtney Conlogue will be now be heading to Narrabeen come next January

Bustin’ Down the Door Touches Down in Oz
Shaun Tomson’s iconic documentary, Bustin’ Down the Door, has finally arrived in Australia, premiering up at Noosa this past Thursday. The film, which chronicles the Hawaiian exploits of Tomson, Mark Richards, Ian Cairns, Peter Townend and Wayne “Rabbit” Bartholomew, illustrates the birth of professional surfing and received a rabid response from the packed theatre in Noosa. This film is a must see for all who surf, and even those who don’t. Great story-telling, dramatic cinematography and some of the best characters our sport has ever seen.
ASP WQS Situation Room - Monday, March 10, 2008
The ASP WQS reignites this week with the ASP WQS 4-Star Arrive Alive Central Coast Pro at Soldiers Beach so we’ll be seeing what’s what in terms of ratings next Monday. We did, however wrap a hard-fought ASP Pro Junior event in the land of the long, white cloud (that’s New Zealand to everyone born in a barn) as well as the GSI Noosa Festival of Surfing.
