CAN KELLY CLINCH IN EUROPE? WELL...
Okay math-mongers. Surely a fair few of you are wild with wonder as to whether Slater can clinch title No. 8 in Europe. Some of you may have even gone to such lengths as to crunch numbers on your own after perusing the ratings page on aspworldtour.com. Good on ya! That's what it's there for! That said, we also employ a few folks who are paid to be privvy to that sorta info here at ASP. According to them, unless Kelly wins both the Quiksilver Pro France and the Billabong Pro Mundaka, the title race will race on to Brazil... and beyond?

FRANCY-PANTS: WILL ANDY WIN IT AGAIN?
It must feel fan-friggin-tastic to win an event for the very first time. And it's got to be an incredible rush to defend that title to make it two in a row. But sweep it three years in a row and people start plotting. Andy Irons has asserted his dominance over Hossegor's goods for three years now and trailing Taj and Kelly in the ratings, he's as eager to make it four as the other guys are to stop him. Will someone stall the elder Irons' streak or will he wreak havoc once again?

ROOKIE RAMBLINGS: JESSI MILEY-DYER TALKS TOUR
The fame, the money, the groupies... the airport terminals and excess bag charges. All in a day in the life of your average pro surfer. Check out wunder-rookie Jessi's take on tour travel and get the downlow on the not-so-glamourous side of the game.

THE LONG AND SHORT OF THE LINDA BENSON PRO
The USA's first-ever ASP-sanctioned women’s longboard event went down last weekend with Lindsay Steinreide (Dana Point, Calif.) taking out the competition at the Roxy Jam Cardiff featuring the Linda Benson Pro. The two-day event saw a massive spectator turnout enjoying the international field of 80 girls strutting their stuff on the clean peaks at Cardiff Reef in Southern California. With past champs, reigning champs and legends within the longboard community all in attendance, the event signifies an excellent new beginning between the ASP and professional women’s longboarding. Congrats Lindsay!

ASP International News (09/2006)

TAJ TAKES ON TRESTLES (AND THE TOP 45)
The Australian superfreak himself, Taj Burrow, has arrived in San Clemente for the upcoming Boost Mobile Pro at Lower Trestles and early reports hint that the aerial maestro has been in devastating form during pre-event free surfs. In between testing out new equipment, Burrow has been preparing to capitalize on his best world title run in years. Although the current world No. 2 has long been considered a world title contender, several have speculated that the 27-year old had missed his window of opportunity. However, Taj’s blistering form in ’06 has put all nay-sayers to rest and he presently sits a mere 427 points behind current leader Kelly Slater. Watch him kick off his Boost Mobile Pro campaign tomorrow against Cory Lopez and Rob Machado in Heat 10 of Round 1.

ADRIAN BUCHAN'S DREAM TOUR DEBUT
With rookies comprising a quarter of this year's Foster's ASP Men's World Tour roster, it's easy to overlook the fact that there's one we haven't heard from yet - Adrian Buchan. After overcoming an ankle injury sustained before the season opener on the Gold Coast, Buchan has been MIA from the first six events of the 2006 tour. Tomorrow, 'ACE' will suit up with the big boys for the first time this year. Will all eyes be on the young Aussie when he paddles out into his Round 1 heat against Damien Hobgood and Trent Munro at the Boost Mobile Pro tomorrow? Buchan Oath they will!

WHY YOU SHOULD MARRY YOUR SHAPER - A CHELSEA GEORGESON STORY
Try this scenario on for size: Girl proves to the world that she is the best female surfer on the planet. Girl wins ASP Women's World Title. Girl surfs well the first half of her defending world champion season but needs to win events if she wants to keep her crown. Girl says, 'I guess I'd better win the next event in France.' Girl loses her entire quiver when her board bag disappears on her way to said event. Girl realizes she married her shaper and he can shape her a new board. Girl has husband shape her a board and wins event keeping her world title dream alive. Lucky girl.

MICK CAMPBELL - THE COMEBACK KING
Following back-to-back WQS victories in France, former world runner-up mighty Mick Campbell has secured his spot on the Foster's ASP Men's World Tour for 2007. After a brief hiatus from elite tour competition, this season has witnessed the powerful goofy-footer back on a global qualifying assault reinstating his reputation as one of the most dangerous competitors in the world. The Top 45 will surely be experiencing an increase in sleepless nights from here on out.

AND THE AWARDS GOES TO...

The 2006 Surfer Poll and Video Awards will go down tomorrow night at The Grove in Anaheim. This gala event will see the world’s best slip into their penguin suits to see who the public thinks wields his or her equipment the best. Last year saw Kelly Slater dethrone Andy Irons for the No. 1 spot and we’ll see the battle rage on once more this year.

The Peak, Bundoran, Co Donegal, Ireland (54°28´N8°16´W)

http://www.strandleben-frankfurt.de

What is it?
The Peak is a perfect A-frame take-off peak with long wallier lefts and shorter, hollower rights breaking over a kelp-covered limestone reef. Surfable from around 2ft - 10ft.
Swell window:
Picks up swell from any low 998 or deeper out west of the Donegal coast. All the waves in Donegal Bay are wide open to west and northwest swells, although a big SW swell really lines up the lefts on the Peak into Indo-style perfection.
Season:
August - November is best. The water temp is milder thanks to the North Atlantic drift and we benefit from all the late autumn, early winter swell activity - the best of both worlds. You can get away with a good 3/2 with boots up until end of November.
Wind & Tide:
S - E winds are offshore. In the 2-6ft range it´s best 2 hours either side of low with perfect A-frames, becoming fatter and slower with higher tides until it gets to 6ft+ when it breaks through to high tide with a shorter left and a longer right breaking into the rivermouth all the way to the Boat Quay.
Interesting fact:
Due to its proximity to the Bradóg River, the reef here is home to a unique fresh water sand coral, found nowhere else on the Irish coast.
Situated 100 yards offshore from the town centre of Bundoran in Donegal Bay, the Peak is also one of the most visible and accessible waves in Ireland. Bundoran is one of Ireland´s most popular tourist resorts, with a small local population that swells dramatically on weekends and in summer. The Peak is at the centre of the town, so it also becomes a focal surf break in summer and at weekends. Bundoran has hosted numerous National and International surfing events over the last 3 decades including European Amateur Championships, Pro-Ams and the Quiksilver Masters and Groms contests. Away from the Peak, the Bundoran-South Donegal offers lots of variety in surfbreaks for every standard like Tullan Strand, 3D, Inside Left and Tullaghan.
